The charm of the estate
Le
Mas D’Arvieux has a rich farming history and today, although
much has changed, we maintain these traditions through tending
and harvesting our olive groves and fruit orchards of pears,
apricots and cherries.
We
purchased Le Mas D’Arvieux in April 2008 and since that time
have redecorated many of the rooms, whilst ensuring we maintained
the original character of the house.
The
oldest part of the Mas, in which three of our guest bedrooms
are located, dates back to the 16th century and stands on the
site of what was once a roman villa.
Over
a century ago, the famous French poet and Nobel Prize winner
Frédéric Mistral used to visit the Mas as a neighbour,
from his home and birthplace in nearby Maillane.
Today,
we use all the fruits from the orchards to make the fruit juice,
jams and compotes that we hope you will enjoy as part of your
unique Provencal breakfast.
Olives
are harvested by hand, usually in November, and taken to a local
mill for pressing into oil. Provencal olives are recognised
as producing some of the best quality olive oils in the world.
If you wish to purchase a bottle of our olive oil or some of
our jams, perhaps as a souvenir of your stay with us, please let
us know.
Over
the past 10 years, we have visited and worked in different countries
and alongside people of various religions and cultures, many
of whom are now our friends. We are therefore always pleased
to receive guests from all nationalities, bringing them together
in the warm and friendly atmosphere of our home.
Both
the Provencal sitting room with large open fireplace and typical
beamed ceiling and the Empire style dining room have been sympathetically
decorated with furnishings we have collected on our travels.
We
hope that you will enjoy all that Provence has to offer and
we look forward to meeting you and welcoming you into our beautiful
home.
Carolyn
and Alex.
